Falcon Lane is a small backyard Syrah vineyard in Graton, CA, that I have been farming for 4 years now. It had previously been abandoned, and farming it has been a long and slow labor of cleaning up and retraining the vines. In previous harvests the vines didn’t produce enough fruit to bottle as a single vineyard wine. The 2023 harvest finally yielded fruit to fill 2 barrels, which I bottled on its own as the first single vineyard Syrah from Falcon Lane.
The Syrah fruit was crushed very minimally, and fermented on skins whole cluster for 9 days. At this point it was pressed, and the wine was left in tank to finish fermentation. Once dry, the Syrah was moved into 2 neutral oak barriques, where it aged over the winter and spring.
In March, the 2 barrels of Syrah were racked to tank for bottling.
Indigenous yeast fermentation. 30 ppm SO2 added at bottling, no other additions, unfined and unfiltered.
